Publisher: Kodansha Manga
Tagline: Married to The Enemy
Summary: When Nao was younger, her mother was wrongfully accused of a murder she did not commit by Tsubaki, a boy Nao thought was her friend. Now 21 years old, Nao has taken the mantle of becoming a traditional Japanese sweets maker like her mother was and came face to face again with the boy who ruined her and her mother’s life. She decided to get close to him again for answers but may get more than expected. Like an odd proposal?
Oooh, romance and a murder mystery!
My Thoughts
To be honest, I was a little skeptical about this, but I was happily mistaken. I wasn’t expecting Nao to be a strong and bold character. She knows what she wants to do – get answers about her mom and be the best sweets maker, and she doesn’t let anything stop her…yet, I guess? Tsubaki is ehh and is douchey, your typical male character (jk). I enjoy the reluctant marriage trope if you can call it that, but uhhhh he got some questions to answer before we get all romancey.
The one thing I can say that I didn’t like was when Tsubaki manhandled Nao. Like why do these male characters always have to rough up the female characters?? He could have just called her, and she would have responded accordingly. There is no need to get handsy for someone who framed a MOTHER for a MURDER but go off, king. Oh yeah, as of now, Tsubaki doesn’t remember Nao since it happened 15 years ago. Although, I don’t know how you sleep easy after wrongly accusing someone again, someone’s MOTHER
Click here to reveal a spoilerSo yeah Tsubaki is crap in my books right now. I feel like he might change over the course of the chapters…hopefully. I have Volumes 2-4 so expect some more reviews down the line.
